German Gingerbread Spice (Lebkuchengewürz)

German Gingerbread Spice (Lebkuchengewürz)

Lebkuchengewürz (Gingerbread spice) is a German gingerbread spice blend made with ground cinnamon, nutmeg, star anise, cardamom, cloves and ginger. It’s flavorful, super easy and quick to make. Easy enough to be made by kids too and give it out as holiday gifts.

The gingerbread spice goes well with almost anything. From desserts, liquors, drinks to gravy. You can use it to make gingerbread cookies (Lebkuchen), apple rolls (instead of using cinnamon), baked apples, rice pudding, spiced tea or the non-alcoholic version of Glühwein just to mention a few. But feel free to throw it in any dessert or drink of your choice to add that gingerbread flavor.

I know that it’s hardly to go wrong with this recipe. But it’s very important that you let the blend infuse for a few days for the flavors to meld together before using.
