Apple Cinnamon Puff Pastry Rolls

Apple Cinnamon Puff Pastry Rolls

Apple rolls are my daughter’s favorite. If it was up to her, she could eat them each and every single day.
This apple roll recipe is delicious (not too sweet), simple to make and uses a handful of ingredients. The extra bonus: is made with store bought puff pastry in just 30 minutes including preparation time, just like spinach feta pinwheels and pizza rolls.

All you have to do is spread the store-bought puff pastry with jam, sprinkle with cooked apple – cinnamon sugar mixture and raisins. Then cut the rolled up pastry into slices, brush them with the “sauce” leftover from the apples and bake for 20 minutes.

You could also replace the raisins with roasted almond flakes. Or if you would like to spicy things up, soak the raisin in rum before using them, (if kids won’t be eating them).

These apple rolls are perfect for breakfast, afternoon tea, as a snack or dessert served with vanilla ice cream, vanilla sauce or dusted with icing sugar.

So if you’re looking for a quick snack for your unexpected guests or kids friendly recipe, then you should definitely give this recipe a go.

1. Peel the apples, remove the core and cut into small pieces. Put the apple dices in a saucepan, add butter, sugar and cinnamon. Let cook at medium low heat for 3 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes.

NOTE: You can use white or brown sugar, but brown sugar will give the apple rolls a better flavor. I didn’t have brown sugar home.

In the meantime preheat the oven to 200 °C (375 °F).

2. Next roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured cutting board. Using the back of the spoon spread jam uniformly thorough over the surface of the puff pastry. Next spread the apple mixture evenly on top and sprinkle with raisins.

NOTE: If the jam is too thick, just warm it in the microwave or double boiler.

3. Carefully roll up the pastry roll lengthwise so that in the end you have one long roll.

Using a sharp knife cut the roll into 10 to 12 equal slices. Arrange the pinwheels on a baking sheet lined with a parchment paper. Don’t forget to leave enough space between the pinwheels for them to expand. Gently press each roll on top, so that it will become a bit flat. Brush each apple roll top lightly with the “sauce” leftover from the apples.

Bake for 20 minutes or until nicely golden brown.

Dust with powdered sugar and Enjoy!
