German alcohol – free Christmas punch (Kinderpunsch)

Sharing is caring!

Delicious, healthy and easy to follow alcohol – free Christmas punch. Made with fruit tea, orange juice, fresh oranges, cherry – apple juice and spices. Makes a perfect last minute gift from the kitchen.

During Christmas my father in law is always responsible for making Glühwein (German hot mulled wine) and my mum in law for the non-alcoholic version of Glühwein (Kinderpunsch). The whole house is always filled with the dreamy smell of cinnamon, star anise, cloves and oranges, which invites you to take a sip of this hot, slightly sweet and nutritious alcohol- free punch.

This is how I’ve learned how to make Christmas punch. I’ve recently made it in batches and gave it out as holiday gifts. Everyone loved it!! My mum in law even complained that she will not share with me her recipes anymore, because I made them better than her. I told her to be proud of herself, because she is such a great teacher.

This Kinderpunsch is loved by both kids and grown-ups and tastes way better than store bought fruit punch. You can use this recipe as a basic recipe and adjust the spices based on your taste. Substitute cherry apple juice with black currant juice or red grape juice.

What you’ll need to make Kinderpunsch

1,5 liter (6 cups) red fruit tea
1 liter (4 cups) cherry apple juice or black currant juice or red grape juice
1,5 liter (6 cups) orange juice
5 tablespoons brown sugar
4 whole star anise
5 whole cloves
1 large organic orange (250 g/ 8 oz/ ½ lbs)
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

You’ll also need

large pot
spoon

How to make non-alcoholic Christmas punch

Boil water and let tea infuse for 10 minutes. Rinse the orange very well and cut it into slices.

Combine tea, juices, sugar, spices and orange slices in a pot.

Stir and let cook over medium low heat for 30 minutes, uncovered. I’t very important that you don’t let it boil!!

Remove cloves and star anise and serve.

  • Feel free to make the punch a day before. Just make sure you remove cloves and star anise. Warm the punch the next day and enjoy.
  • The punch makes a perfect last minute gift from the kitchen too. All you have to do is wash empty glass bottles with boiling water and fill them with hot Christmas punch. Let cool and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
