Easy Homemade German Pickling Spice Recipe

Easy Homemade German Pickling Spice Recipe

German pickling spice mix is one of the key ingredients in making German dill pickles. It’s flavorful, easy, and quick to put together.

Made with whole spices (mustard seeds, black pepper, fennel seeds, cloves, juniper berries, coriander seeds, allspice berries), bay leaves, dried carrots, and savory.

You can use this pickling spice to make pickled cucumbers, mixed pickles, or any pickled vegetables of your choice. It also makes a perfect gift from the kitchen for your family and friends.

What you’ll need to make pickling spice mix

  • 2 tablespoons mustard seeds
  • 1 tablespoon black peppercorns
  • 1 tablespoon fennel seeds
  • 16 whole cloves
  • 10 whole juniper berries
  • 1 tablespoon coriander seeds
  • 2 teaspoons allspice
  • 3 bay leaves
  • ½ teaspoon dried savory
  • 1 tablespoon dried carrots

*For my dried carrots, I’ve used half a small carrot that I have peeled, cut into sticks, and dried for a couple of days.

*If you don’t have access to dried savory, feel free to use dried dill.
