Fried Camembert

Dipped in an egg - milk mixture and coated with bread crumbs, this fried camembert makes a great lunch or light dinner. Tastes great with a slice of  toasted buttered bread or green salad and of course cranberry sauce, which tone down the Camembert cheese flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 rounds Camembert cheese approx. 150 g/ 5.3 oz each,
  • 2 eggs
  • breadcrumbs
  • sunflower oil for frying
  • a dash of milk
  • cranberry sauce and 4 slices of toasted bread to serve (optional)

Instructions

  • Pour breadcrumbs into one bowl. Crack the eggs into another bowl, add a dash of milk and beat until blended.
  • Dip Camembert into the egg - milk mixture, coating all sides. Then coat the cheese with the breadcrumbs.
  • Place the coated Camembert on an extra plate to shake off the excess breadcrumbs
  • Heat the oil in the pan at medium - high. Once the oil is hot enough, but not too hot, lower the heat to medium-low and fry Camembert (slowly) on both sides until nicely golden brown. If the oil is too hot, the crust will burn, before the cheese is done. Fry the remaining egg-milk mixture (if you want). Remove from the pan and place the cheese on a plate lined with paper towels and then transfer to serving plates.

Notes

You don't need a large amount of oil, but enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan.
